Plastic Packaging Recycling
MaterialPlastic film that is HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) with resin identification code #2, LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) with resin identification code #4), LLDPE (Linear Low Density Polyethylene) with resin identification code #4 or PP (Poly Propylene) with resin identification code #5. Plastic may be clear (natural) or colored.
Examples include silage bags, mulch film, drip tape, grocery bags, shrink wrap, hay wrap and greenhouse film.
Shipping
Film must be baled, rolled or otherwise compacted to achieve sufficient density for transportation. Bales could reach 1,600 – 2,200 pounds. Bales will be approximately 36” x 48” x 72”. Bales, etc. must maintain shape and integrity through storage, loading, shipping and unloading.
Bales must be loaded to allow for safe and efficient transportation and offloading. Shipments of mixed materials are allowed with prior arrangements if like materials are baled and loaded separately. Loaded trucks should achieve a minimum load weight of 38,000 pounds and should not exceed a gross vehicle weight of 80,000 pounds.
Prohibited Materials
The following contamination will not be accepted under any circumstance:
- Wood, tires, stones, metal, glass, clumps of dirt and large objects.
- No oil, grease or containers that previously held this material.
- No hazardous, biological, infectious or radioactive wastes.
- No polystyrene (Styrofoam) or polyurethane (foam rubber) foam.
- Polyester fiber reinforced materials are not accepted.
- Baling wire when used to wrap bales is acceptable; poly twine is the preferred baling material.
- Plastic must be handled and stored in such a way that contamination from moisture, soil, dirt and mud are minimized.
- Efforts must be made to minimize silage and other types of crop materials.
- <5% by weight - No deduction.
- 5% - 10% by weight – Price deduction up to 50% of the purchase price.
- >10% and/or Prohibited Materials present – Entire load may be rejected and return at supplier’s expense. Supplier is responsible for all rejection costs including transportation, storage, disposal and labor costs.
